Spectacular staircase for Swansea Central’s star project Swansea Arena

Spiral UK are delighted to be involved in the most talked about development in Swansea at the moment, Swansea Central. The business will be providing the staircase for Swansea Arena.

Swansea Central is part of a £1 billion redevelopment of the city centre. Phase one is being delivered by Buckingham Group Contracting for Swansea Council and developed by RivingtonHark. The landmark attraction within this build is Swansea Arena, operated by Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the multi-functional 3,500-capacity indoor venue will aim to stage 160 performances a year.

Buckingham Group have contracted Spiral UK to create the massive helical staircase in the entrance to the venue.

The custom-made curved staircase design will rise in a striking arc over 9 1/2 metres leading visitors to two different levels of the building. The size of the stair will really make an impact with the treads being 3m wide and support columns in place to maintain the structure. The prominent vertical lines created by the balustrade will enhance the effect, creating a truly spectacular feature staircase.

Eric Nicholls Managing Director at Spiral UK said

There is such a buzz around this project. We are really thrilled to be involved in something so exciting and are looking forward to the challenge of installing such a spectacular staircase.

The staircase is currently being designed and I have seen the first renders, it curves in a wonderful arc as it rises and will have a striking effect in what I am sure will become an iconic building in Swansea.
