Representing manufacturing at the Houses of Parliament

Spiral UK’s Managing Director Eric Nicholls proudly represented manufacturing at the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group summer reception with Make UK last week.

Our Managing Director, Eric Nicholls is also Chair of the Cornwall Manufacturers Group, CMG. An organisation that encourages the development of manufacturing in Cornwall and offers opportunities for information exchange within the group, as well as communication with external organisations.

Last week this involved a trip to the Houses of Parliament to represent the sector, alongside other senior manufacturing figures, at the annual summer reception hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, APMG and Make UK.

Representatives from manufacturing in the UK were joined by MPs and Peers to discuss the current state of British manufacturing and the impact of Brexit with policy makers from across the political spectrum.

Held on the House of Lords Terrace overlooking the Thames, guests heard from a series of high-profile speakers, including Richard Harrington MP, Minister of State for Business and Industry.

I am very proud of the achievements of manufacturing in Cornwall with few people outside the sector knowing that we contribute £150m (10% of the county’s GVA) to the Cornwall economy and employ over 3,500 people. It was a real privilege to represent manufacturing and hear the latest thoughts and priorities for the sector, first hand, from those in government.
