Spotlight on Cornwall: How We're Helping Close the Engineering Skills Gap

We’re incredibly proud to be featured in a new video by Enginuity – an organisation doing vital work to close the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing across the UK.

Enginuity recently visited us at our factory here in Cornwall, along with several other manufacturing businesses across the county, to see firsthand how we approach training, development, and the nurturing of local talent. The result is a fantastic short film that captures not just what we do, but why we do it – and why Cornwall is such a special place to do it.

Championing Our Apprentices

At Spiral UK, our apprentices aren’t just part of the business – they’re the future of it. We’ve always been passionate about championing their development and shouting about their achievements at every opportunity.

We firmly believe that investing in young people and supporting them through quality apprenticeships is one of the most important things a manufacturer can do. It’s not just good for business – it’s our responsibility to the next generation of engineers and to the communities we’re part of.

The Cornwall Difference

But this video captures something bigger than one company’s apprenticeship programme. It’s about Cornwall.

Our county has an extraordinary depth of talent and untapped skills that often goes unrecognised on the national stage. We do things a little differently here – shaped by our heritage, our community, and our pride in where we come from – and we think that’s something worth celebrating.

We’re proud of our Cornish roots, and we know that within our factory, and across our county, there is a wealth of knowledge and potential just waiting to be unlocked. Telling that story, and being part of Enginuity’s wider mission to address the UK’s engineering skills gap, feels like exactly the right thing to be doing.
