The Story of Spiral UK: 40 Years of Excellence
As we enter a 40th year of manufacturing bespoke staircases, we celebrate past achievements and look to future successes.
National Leaders
Spiral UK is one of, if not the biggest, manufacturers of bespoke luxury staircases in the country, and it all started in a small workshop in the Cornish village of St Keverne in 1985.
Buzz and Eric Nicholls began their business providing concrete spiral staircases to the local construction market, and soon gained a reputation for their quality service and excellent products which led them to expand the team to five people over the coming years.
Expansion and Growth
As the years went by and the orders flowed in, the company was passed down to the capable hands of Eric Nicholls, son of founder Buzz. Eric has led the business into new markets and expanded its offerings, bringing in new materials and staircase types such as helical/curved stairs, cantilever/floating stairs and straight/dog-leg stairs.
Spiral UK soon needed a bigger space in which to produce its often enormous structures, so the base, including the factory, was moved to the town of Helston, where it still resides to this day.
The team has grown too, bringing in expert design engineers, fabricators and welders, dispatch and installation teams, to take Spiral’s products all over the UK and overseas.
As the demand for bespoke staircases grew, Spiral took the decision to expand its offices, setting up a second base in Cambridgeshire and putting together an experienced sales team to match each customer with their dream staircase.
Where are we Today?
Spiral UK is now one of the nation’s biggest manufacturers of bespoke staircases, providing staircases for places such as the London Palladium and The Gherkin in recent years.
Our staircases have featured on Grand Designs and been the source of an entire show on BBC radio covering staircase manufacturing.
We are advocates of apprenticeships and internships, providing a future for trades such as fabrication, welding, installation and design engineering.
As Spiral UK celebrate 40 years, our team are excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another 40!
