Spiral UK attends the Cornwall Manufacturing Awards 2024

Spiral UK attended the prestigious bi-annual Cornwall Manufacturing Group Awards at the Eden Project to celebrate all that is fantastic about manufacturing in Cornwall and support fellow businesses and constructors who are putting Cornwall on the map.

Nestled amongst the biomes and the twinkling lights, the team at Spiral UK kicked off their factory overalls and put on their finest attire to show support for the manufacturing industry in Cornwall.

Being a Cornish company, Spiral UK is heavily involved and invested in supporting the manufacturing sector in the county; with Spiral UK’s MD Eric Nicholls himself being on the board for the Cornwall Manufacturers Group.

“It is a fantastic community that has nurtured people into careers in manufacturing from all backgrounds. We [Spiral UK] are always proud to be part of the CMG [Cornwall Manufacturers Group] and be able to come along to events like this to support one another and admire the hard work and dedication of all the wonderful manufacturing businesses in Cornwall supplying to the rest of the UK and beyond.” – Eric Nicholls, Spiral UK MD.

The event started with guests arriving, in all their glitz and glam, to a selection of drinks and an opportunity to catch up with each other; spending quality time in the company of likeminded engineers, craftspeople, tradespeople and administrators.

Thereafter, they made their way to the main hall to dine on a delightful three course meal, all provided by Eden Projects incredible catering staff sourcing all ingredients from the site itself. Before settling in to the awards and hearing of all the inspirational stories that have rightfully afforded the nominees the chance to be praised for their hard work and dedication to growing the future of manufacturing in Cornwall.

“The evening has been a fantastic night full of everyone coming together to support and cheer on these companies that are producing incredible technologies and products to the UK and the rest of the world. When you are working day to day, you don’t get a chance to really admire how far we’ve all come and how fantastic the community of manufacturers is in this county. There’s a real buzz and we’re proud to be part of it’ – Andrew Holland, Spiral UK MD.

The Cornwall Manufacturers Group launched the opportunity to apply for the awards, recognised and sponsored by Make UK (the Manufacturers Organisation) ahead of the announcement ceremony at the Eden Project on April 11th, 2024.

This year, former defence and health minister, Lord Hutton, delivered a brilliant speech on the manufacturing sector in our country with a particular highlight of Cornwall’s crucial role. The night was hilariously guided by former ITV and Sky News presenter, David Fitzgerald, who will no doubt be receiving words from Sir Tim Smit (Eden Project’s founder) after David generously gave away one of Eden’s decorative pot plants as an extra raffle prize!

The charity for the evening was Man Down Cornwall, a worthy cause that provides vital work to prevent and lessen male suicide rates in Cornwall and break the stigma around accessing mental health for men. The charity brilliantly raised well over £2000.00 in the evening.

The awards included business leadership, environment project of the year and apprentice / trainee of the year; shining a light on the fantastic young talents rising in the world of manufacturing and helping to continue its growth and strength for future generations.

A marvellous night that left all who attended enthused and proud about being part of the manufacturing sector in Cornwall.
