Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at Spiral UK 2024

At Spiral UK, we are one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of bespoke staircases, specifically spiral, helical, floating and dog-legged staircase structures.

Over our 38 years, we have built quite a reputation for providing a quality service and this is due to our dedicated and highly skilled team of designers, craftsmen and installers.

Building this team requires us to dedicate our time and attention to growing the skills of our workforce and a big part of that force are our apprentices.

At Spiral UK, we proudly provide opportunities for individuals to develop into roles that they will flourish in, which in turn, helps us create the masterpiece staircases that come out of our factory.

Meet our apprentices and past apprentices:

Jacob

Jacob started his career journey with us at Spiral in design engineering, having just completed his HNC with Cornwall College with distinction, he applied for the role with us and soon found himself taking a seat with our skilled design team learning the tricks of the trade.

His passion for what he was learning and the excitement of working on real projects fuelled his desire to keep coming into work and giving it his all. Jacob soon took up bigger responsibilities, working solo on some high end projects.

Before long, Jacob was offered a full time position here with us at Spiral, and we are proud to say that Jacob is now a valuable member of the team, seeing him working on projects such as the London Palladium and the Salesforce Tower in London.

Our Cornwall College apprentices; Josh and Tom

Josh and Tom started with us in September 2023 to begin their four year fabrication/welding courses in association with Cornwall College.

Straight from the get go the pair were thrown in the deep end, being asked to take part in demonstrating their work at our factory open day for National Manufacturing Day. The day saw the boys showing the work they do on a day to day basis at the Spiral factory to their peers, teachers, other students, governing bodies and the local MP!

Both of them shined through with their confidence and passion for what they are learning and our older, senior fabricators were impressed with the lads eagerness for their apprenticeships.

These young, aspiring individuals have grown in their understanding of what it takes to create our high-end, bespoke staircase structures and will be integral members of the team as they grow in their roles and develop their skills.

Our Truro College apprentices; Tom and Finlay

Just like our Cornwall College apprentices, Tom and Finlay started their apprenticeships with us in fabrication and welding. Tom, is in his second year with us whilst Finlay, is now in his final year.

Bringing these guys in to Spiral UK to undergo their apprenticeships is a fantastic experience for all. Not only are the lads growing in their skills, confidence and passion for their futures in the trades they are training in, they also are bringing a fresh new approach to how we build our structures here at Spiral UK, helping us to keep in touch and relevant with how things are done and ensuring Spiral UK is providing work for generations to come.

Andrew Holland, Spiral UK’s CEO, said “Spiral UK are committed to developing and nurturing a highly skilled workforce that is very able to design and manufacture the high-quality bespoke staircases that we deliver across the UK. We work for world renown companies like Dyson, and Sony, so it is essential that our people have the right skills and experience to deliver the bespoke staircases that our clients require.

We believe in supporting our people to grow and develop in the organisation and the apprenticeship programme helps us do this”
