External Spiral Staircase in Essex

We worked with DLS Fabrication Ltd to design this external steel spiral staircase for a residential property in Southend, Essex.

Tasked with crafting the triple floor feature steel spiral staircase, Spiral UK took great pride in ensuring their designs and concepts were in keeping with the surrounding area and previous staircase structure before it.

David Scates of DLS fabrication commented “Spiral UK were easy to deal with, proactive and most importantly, on time and the works took the pre agreed duration, every part of the process was professional and transparent. The staircase is very good quality and all the residents are pleased and impressed with it.”

Bringing this three-storey staircase to life required close collaboration between Spiral UK and DLS Fabrication. To balance a familiar feel with a sophisticated finish, we paired a classic central column with open risers, durbar-plated treads, and a sleek flat-bar  handrail with PVC capping.

Overcoming Site Contraint

The building’s age and existing foundations required careful navigation from our design team, while the installation demand high precision within a tight footprint. At Spiral UK, we believe the most crucial step is to truly understand these site limitations. By identifying the challenged early, our team used their extensive experience to engineer a bespoke structure that fits perfectly and looks fantastic.

Bringing a fresh look to an old design.

This property in Southend, Essex, already had a pre-existing external spiral staircase that was being removed in order to make room for the installation of its new steel spiral staircase from Spiral UK, so care and consideration for the design had to be factored.

The famous saying ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’ certainly came into effect with the designing around this staircase. Though bringing a fresh look is vital to ensure a degree of change and refreshment to a project, it was also important that we kept some similarities to ensure the external staircase fitted perfectly into its intended location.

The residents of the property in Essex were certainly eager to see what their new external spiral staircase was going to look like and were pleasantly appeased to see that the structure honed in on the traditional look and feel of its predecessor, whilst also having a new look, style and finish.
