PINEWOOD STUDIO'S FEATURE Spiral Construction have recently completed a stunning installation at the new, glass-enclosed Gatehouse which marks the entrance to Pinewood Studio’s complex in Buckinghamshire.
Working with architects, Burland TM, the practice responsible for a major redevelopment of the entire Pinewood Studios site, Spiral developed a helical staircase for the two storey building, with the staircase continuing to roof level allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the entire site from an observation deck.
Designed to be fully compliant with Part M of the Building Regulations (Access to and Use of Buildings) the staircase design is an unusually large diameter, at 3.4m, and features stainless steel hand rails and stringers manufactured out of steel box section.
Commenting on the design, Kerem Aksoy from Burland TM said: “The new building spans the entrance and exit roads to the studio complex and its design draws on elements of Pinewood’s logo. The specification of all materials was very carefully considered to ensure that every element reflected the aesthetic quality of the building; being such a focal point of the interior, we obviously wanted the design of the staircase to reflect our overall design objective. We certainly achieved that working with the Spiral team”.

A BREATHTAKING CENTRAL FEATURE Spiral Construction have just completed two stunning
stone spiral staircases in the new Beetham Tower,
Birmingham's highest building.
The stairs served the
ultra luxury penthouses on the 29th floor, which have
unparalleled views over 360 degrees of the city and the
surrounding landscape.
The stairs were manufactured with a central stainless steel core
pole and contrasting treads in Golden Stone, a South African natural
sandstone with a rich deep honey colour.
Structural glazing and polished
stainless steel handrails combined to produce a breathtaking central feature
to these exclusive apartments.
The stairs were manufactured in
association with Wachenfeld Naturstein Gmbh, Europe's leading manufacturer
of cantilevered natural stone staircases with whom Spiral Construction
have exclusively worked for eight years.
The projects designers, award winning Ian Simpson Architects, were
delighted with the finished result and have since specified further
stone staircases from Spiral Construction.

HELICAL STAIRCASE OFF PARK LANE
Spiral Construction have just completed an
incredible helical staircase for a luxury mews house off Park Lane.
Space restrictions of the existing structure would normally mean a
conventional centre column spiral stair was the only option, but Spiral
designed a helical stair with the inner stringer specially produced
from a single steel tube to a radius far smaller than would be possible
to manufacture in normal circumstances.
The stair included stainless
steel balustrading with curved glass panels contrasting with crisp white
paintwork and timber treads to give a stunning result.
The stair appears
to thread itself through the building and gives a more spacious feel than
if it had been a conventional spiral. Very clever!
