Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do you need from me to price a stair?

The key to pricing the stair is to have lots of interesting ideas about what you want for a stair.

A floor plan of the area helps us ascertain whether the stair is feasible and what type of stair will fit.

The floor to floor dimension will enable us to work out how many treads you will need.

Look at our gallery and case studies to see if any part of any stair is what you would like.

  • What preparation is needed prior to installation?

    Spiral stair foundation pad

Below are the specifications needed for a spiral staircase foundation pad up to a 1300mm radius stair.

Loadings for larger more complex stairs will need to have the dead weight calculated to insure the more secure pad is

    prepared prior to installation.

    Helical Stair Foundation pad

The foundation pad and area for these stairs need to be calculated with the load bearing calculation due to the spread of the load.

  • What is a Helical Staircase ?

    Spiral or helix

A helical stair will float from the landing to floor level by the aid of two stringers either side of the treads.

The curvaceous sweep gives an elegant stair of high impact for the ultimate staircase.

Various materials can be used to shape the stair but you do need a decent sized space to accommodate the sweep.

  • What is a Spiral Staircase?

    Spiral or helix

An Archimedean spiral, a helix, and a conic spiral.

A "spiral" and a "helix" are both technically spirals even though they each represent a different object.

The two primary definitions of a spiral are as follows:

    a. A curve on a plane that winds around a fixed center point at a continuously increasing or decreasing distance from the point.

    b. A three-dimensional curve that turns around an axis at a constant or continuously varying distance while moving parallel to the axis.
